Inntel Hotels signs sustainability covenant

On Thursday June 24th, 29 hotels and congress locations - including Inntel Hotels - signed the sustainability covenant.

Goals

Besides the 29 hotels and congress locations, Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, Stichting Keurmerk Milieu Veiligheid & Kwaliteit, Rotterdam Marketing and the local authority of Rotterdam also signed the covenant. A sustainable hotel and congress sector in Rotterdam contributes to the goals set by the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, to reduce the CO2 emission by 50% and to realize a 100% climate sustainability in 2025.

Green Key certificate

Making the sector more sustainable often results in cost savings, because hotels and congress locations with a low CO2 emission also use less energy. They can also get a Green Key certificate: this is a powerful marketing tool for individual locations but also for the city of Rotterdam.

As a result, the ever environmentally aware consumer will often choose for Rotterdam. In this way, Rotterdam can profile its self as a city with a 'green hearth' that is attractive to visit and where its attractive to stay.

Tangible measures

The participating hotels and congress locations strive to get the Green Key certificate within 1,5 years. With this certificate, organizations can show their guests, governments and business partners that they care about the environment and the nature.

This can be done with tangible measures, focussing on reducing gas, water and electricity consumption and reducing the garbage. A very important advantage is that an environmentally related reduction also leads to cost savings. Besides that, knowledge development and sharing is also a important part of the cooperation.

Support

Sustainability is getting more important and business event organisers and guests become more aware of this subject. Therefore, Rotterdam Marketing, the Rotterdam Climate Initiative and Koninklijke Horeca Nederland support the initiative from hotels and congress centers to focus on corporate social responsibility.
